Kevin Rudd Fixes Zimbabwe, Almost.
It is truly amazing, indeed puzzling, the Kevin hasn't been asked to step in and solve the crisis in Zimbabwe. I'm sure that is a question that deeply trouble the man himself. There will be meetings, or at least the prelude to meetings. The gathering of the greatest minds, in the Prime Ministerial waiting room.

Kevin Rudd and the Papal Visit

Okay, I know its just over two weeks away, but I couldn't resist. The image created is irrestible
I was particularly interested in the article in the Australian on the weekend. I already suspected Rudd was a control freak, but a control freak on the brink of chaos, that's brilliant.
I originally thought Rudd would be a two term Prime Minister, but.....

Interest Rates - Hold?

Interest rates don't go up, ie Reserve indicates that they may not need to go up in the foreseeable future. That's the result of sound economic policy, that is.
Fuel prices spiralling, that would be larger world economic forces at work.
Frankly, both are something of a matter of luck. Much like the rain that broke the drought the day Bob Hawke became Prime Minister.
The best governments can offer are fuel watch thingys. Then they can take the credit when prices go down, and look for scape goats when they go up.
Still, we need someone to blame, and they are the best thing we've got.

Kevin Rudd Last Drinks
It's not so much that he's telling us how much to drink, don't really care. It's just that he has an opinion on everything, and delivers that opinion like it is the only one that matters.
If it looks like the school know it all, talks like the school know it all, then in all likelihood it is.

Petrol Prices

I must admit I'm seeing it with the benefit of hindsight, however, I'm baffled why Kevin Rudd, and his advisors, didn't see the potential political risk of promising to act on climate change and helping voters at the bowser.
I mean, the two policy directions are polar opposites, and any advisor worth his/her salt should have seen that. Unless, they were only focused on what would win the last federal election. The dangers of short term thinking.
I won't even start on solar panels. Though I can see the solution. They should have said that it was an ineffective spend to provide such a concession at effectively a micro level. Much smarter to assist in making green energy, ie selecting the green energy supplier option, easier. Tax rebates to those earning less than $100K per year.
Admittedly I haven't studied the economics, but the reduction in carbon footprint would have been impressive. Good idea, heh. See, it's easy, or should be.

Opinion Polls
I'm amazed they didn't run Brendan 07 headlines, or maybe they did, I didn't see them. Did he get to 7 percent? I don't remember. Does it matter? Probably not. Do Polls matter, at this stage in the electoral cycle? Probably not, at least to you and I.
I would like to see Kevin 07 (percent), that would be fun. Wouldn't be his fault, and he would be quite clear about where the responsibility lies.
That's one of the Kevin traits I'm really looking forward to explore.
